As one of the outcomes of NOWPAP Marine Litter Activity (MALITA), the NOWPAP Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter (RAP MALI) was approved and has been implemented since March 2008. NOWPAP member states have been encouraged to implement RAP MALI in order to prevent, monitor and remove marine litter (ML) at national and local levels, in cooperation with local governments and authorities within the NOWPAP region. These national efforts are expected to lead to the improvement of the overall status of marine litter pollution in the NOWPAP region.
NOWPAP RAP MALI consists of three key elements namely: (1) prevention of marine litter input to marine and coastal environment; (2) monitoring of marine litter quantities and distribution; and (3) removing existing marine litter and its disposal. In this document, the implementation of the NOWPAP RAP MALI in 2016-2017 is briefly presented as well as suggested work plan for the 2018-2019 biennium.
